Please don't take my comment the wrong way, I absolutely believe in the intent of free software. But there is alot of effort put forth by distributors in packaging the kernels and various products, and with their foray into the zSeries market they are very much like fish out of water. They have to learn all of these new terms and new hardware quirks.
Their request for compensation for this work is not without merit, and I believe that $600 for a 6 month trial is a small price to pay. If you like the package and want to roll in to production, get the yearly subscription. Based on the class of machine it is very reasonable.
