There is a more fundamental reason why a virus scanner is only an aid not a solution. Its possible to write a virus which spreads faster than the virus updates can, brings down the networks it uses (so you can't update) and destroys all your hardware. Trickier I suspect on S/390 but rather easy on PC systems. Just think about a version of slammer that also erased your bios and your disk firmware... Alan
