"I have to install Linux on VM and I don't know where to begin." Are you faced
with this problem? There's help available.
If you're already planning to come to SHARE in Washington, DC, this August 10-15
(or even if you're not), there's an excellent opportunity to learn from some of the
experts how to install z/VM and customize it for running Linux on the mainframe.
On Sunday, 10 August, the day prior to the official start of SHARE in DC, SHARE is
offering one of its Sunday Seminars -- a very full day of lecture, demonstration, and
hands-on lab participation -- entitled "Running z/VM to Host Linux - Installation and
Customization." The primary instructor for the seminar is Richard Lewis of IBM, who
is justifiably famous for his work as the primary author and instructor of the very
well received 3-part SHARE session "Linux for S/390 Installation Lab."
Agenda:
z/VM Virtualization Concepts (lecture)
Live Installation of z/VM in an LPAR (demo)
Installation and Familiarization lab (hands-on)
Configuring z/VM - system areas and TCP/IP (lecture)
Configuration lab (hands-on)
z/VM Facilities for Cloning Linux Images (lecture)
Cloning Linux Virtual Machines lab (hands-on)
As an extra added benefit, lunch is included in the price of the seminar.
You don't have to register for SHARE to attend this seminar, though there is a
significant discount off the seminar registration fee if you do. Also, there are
sessions scheduled throughout the SHARE week that pursue in more depth the topics
covered in the seminar. (See http://share.prod.web.sba.com/dc/program/sessions.cfm
for session listings.)
