I listened to this yesterday. It took about an hour, and by-and-large
was pretty good stuff. David doesn't talk down to you, he uses little
pictures and big words, has opinions and can back 'em up. It managed to
keep me interested, and I'm already one of the converted.

David tells what's good about Linux on zSeries, and is also forthright
about what's bad. He is an unapologetic champion of z/VM, to the point
where he claims that no successful production z/Linux runs without it.
(I tend to treat the requirement for z/VM with a grain or two of NaCl,
but he's talking about lots of images -- not the unloaded sandboxes I'm
running.)

Unfortunately, there's an audio level problem; the moderator is nice and
loud, but David's voice tends to fade in and out. I had to run the
speakers way up to hear him comfortably. Oh, and I'm not sure the
moderator pronounced the name of David's company correctly.

Why IBM felt they had to insert a couple of (mercifully brief)
commercials into the audio stream I cannot imagine.

The presentation needs either WM or RA to play, and they don't tell you
this in advance. It was kind of embarrassing for me to abandon my Linux
machine to go find a Windows machine so that I could play a Linux
webcast. You have to register, and most of the fields are required.
(Hey IBM: I'm the guy named "No sales calls" from Alabama, with the
Beverly Hills zip code and a ".no" email address.)

Anyway, two thumbs up to David Boyes for his effort (ahem: *Dr.* Boyes,
which title can only enhance his cinnamon roll reputation). The webcast
is recommended, even for some of you hardcore types; at the very least
it beats fighting with HCD for an hour. ;-)
