I have my fstab mount as ro for /usr and the VM file has RR set on the
0202 drive.  I will look at the zipl.conf file and see if that fixes the
problem.

You should define r/o mode. In zipl.conf dasd=0202(ro), the same on VM if
your linux under VM.
