You will not be forced to have anything different. The "timer patch" would be nice. We are running a single, basic, unpatched SLES7 system under VM here at work with NO problems. Remember that LPAR mode is very similar to running under VM. I don't know all the internals, but the LPAR microcode is actually used by VM for some of its functionality.
