Actually, I've used AWT with both SuSE and RedHat right out of the box, both on the 
mainframe and on the PC. I don't think you'd need anything but an X Windows server on 
your target machine or PC. Be sure that the environment variable $DISPLAY points to 
the server machine and screen number.
