Not sure about Debain, but IBM 3420 tape drives are not supported by Suse 7.3. Well, at least I couldn't get them to work with the MP3000 Emulated 3420 tape drives (emulates tape on OS/2 DASD).
As soon as I tried our IBM 3490 drives (the A and B units, not to be confused with the E models), they worked just fine. I have set up 3240 tape drives to be emulated, but my question is how do I access these tape devices through linux? I must also say that I dont think it matters that it is a P/390, to linux all my emulated tape devices should appear as if they were real and attached to a real mainframe. My problem is using them. Thanks in advance, Alex J Burke.
