The interesting question to me is, why did they (Ebay and IBM consultants) decide on an Intel based, xSeries, platform to run WebSphere on instead of a mainframe runing linux. I would love to know the reasons.

It's my guess that the database isn't being properly scaled. For that matter SPARC based machines move at speeds that make even the fastest of anything else, look faster. At least this is from when I met a crowd of those guys, at LWE, last winter. I have yet to see anything substantial come out of Oracle regarding running native on mainframes, and on Linux/390. All I am seeing in these messages are complaints. (Oh, and everyone, opinions are all I am stating here. That's all.)
