Hello again from Gregg C Levine
I thought penguins were small birds to begin with? (Sorry I thought a
joke was in order.)
Every time I've experimented with a database for a customer, it's been
MySQL on Intel. Distribution neutral, since the customer was of the
kind that would not know one from the other, if it bit him. We did
look at, Oracle on, (ugh!) Sun, but the ROI was lousy, also the
customer had massive problems with funding. MVS and DB2 was
considered, but since the same customer wasn't familiar with IBM's
mainframe operating systems, it wasn't worth the effort. Also, the
same customer, now wants me to re-write an entire database formerly
running on Oracle, on Intel, and yes, from Mr. Bill's shop, we're
planning on looking at Linux, and MySQL. But not on Intel, probably,
going to go towards an IBM mainframe solution. If the customer can
create the funding.
