3. Copy the new kernel to /boot
cp arch/s390x/boot/image /boot/kernel-x.x.x ( e.g. kernel-2.4.21-3)
O.K.
4. Copy System.map to /boot
cp System.map /boot/System.map-x.x.x (e.g. System.map-2.4.21-3)
Done ...
5. Edit /etc/zipl.conf
Something like that
[new] target=/boot/zipl image=/boot/kernel-2.4.21-3 #ramdisk=/boot/initrd parameters="dasd=07a4,0714,0715 root=/dev/dasda1 noinitrd"
Was also O.K.
6. Run 'zipl new'
Did we ...
Well, we have done all these. After reboot, the System didn't come up again. Are there perhaps any other files missing?
Please not that there is a man-page for zipl and zipl.conf in the newest s390-tools-1.2.1 from IBM's developerworks. It also add a new 'menu' feature, which is not found on the version shipped with SLES8.
As a sidenote: Does normal IPL from the device work ?
