Hi, I have a P/390 system, and I run native Debian on it.
The issues I have with this config is that nothing appears on the console (defined a 3215 at 0009). Why would this be? My only conclusion is that Debian's kernel has been compiled with HMC support asthe primary console...would be very grateful for ideas about this. Secondly, in an attempt to fix this Adam Thorntorn (who kindly helped me get Debian running) compiled a new kernel based on the 2.4.21 sources...with the HMC turned off (so as to let it use the terminal at 0009). However, when he tried to boot the compiled kernel on his P/390 under VM it part loaded and then he got a message from VM that it was looping. Could someone suggest how to build a working kernel for the P/390.....ideally one that does not use HMC....console output would be SUCH a help! Lastly does anybody know how to configure two (in future 3) LCS interfaces, one being Ethernet the other Token Ring? I set the lcs.chandev, set the lcs, set the the s390 architecture file, added the extra IP to hosts and added tr0 to the interfaces file. I then did a modules-update (all modifications were done to the /etc/modutils, /etc and /etc/network repectively....the correct places). The tr0 still refuses to come up....eth0 however always comes up. An extra set of 3088s were defined in the P/390 configurator for the TR interface, the 802.2 protocol was added to the TR interface under OS/2.....it was the only protocol on the two mainframe connections. Any thoughts? Now for a small off-topic, what the current way to get z/VM....will it run on a P/390? Will only V3.1 run, or does 4.4 (the latest I believe?) work also? Allot of HDD required I guess? Thanks very much in advance, your help would be much apppreciated and will prove very useful. Thanks, Alex J Burke.
