We were able to drive the 3590 using both the standard open source st module as well as the IBM supplied IBMtape. The latter gives you control a lot of the internal functions of the device including the cartridge loader. We never used the developerworks supplied beast. I wonder if they are, in fact, one in the same.

We will access some 3590 in an 3494 Library in SCSI mode through a FICON CHPID in FCP mode (zFCP). What I've found so far is that the zfcp OCO module is already part of SLES8 but from the Developerworks site, it seems that we need to add the tape_3590_mod.o module. One of my peers who specializes in storage as refered me to the manual "IBM TotalStorage Tape Device Drivers Installation and User's Guide" which deals on the same subject but coming out with totally different module name, i.e. IBMtape.o. I'm tempted to stick with the OCO from Developerworks and just ignore the other module. Can anyone enlighthen me on this?
