Because there's no official major device number assigned for the cpint
"devices" the script is required to find a free number.
The taint message has disappeared in the later "releases". It was just that
the license information hadn't been compiled with the version you are using.

Next challenge.. how to get cpint installed loaded
I can call cpint_load and cpint-post-insmod during boot but there must be a
more elegant way, but I can't find a how-to. What might the entry in
modules.conf be if I used that.
Also do I worry about the message
Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.19-4suse-SMP/misc/cpint.o will taint the
kernel: forced load.
