Its not a compression issue - that is automatic. However, when a data set is deleted under MVS, a message is sent to the RVA via the software IXFP which gives the free space back. Then IXFP, every once in a while, does a free space collection. The question is, "Does the IXFP/MVS interface during space collection recognize that the VTOC shows an empty pack, therefore releasing the allocated backend space?" ===== Jim Sibley Implementor of Linux on zSeries in the beautiful Silicon Valley "Computer are useless. They can only give answers."
