Having grown up in Sacramento, I know the word stands for "City of the Blessed 
Sacrament".  Isn't this an offense to non-Christians?  And to non-Spanish-speaking 
people?  Perhaps we should just change it to honor the founder, John Sutter.  Except 
there's already a city in California named Sutterville.  And wouldn't that be an 
offense to the native Americans who were already here?

At least here in Seattle, the name was chosen to honor chief Sealth, whose name is 
pronounced like "Seattle".  and Tacoma is the native american name for Mount Rainier.  
That's something, anyway.
