Installing Websphere performance concerns

Hi: Can someone point me to an old discussion, or your own experiences
with the performance qualities
installing Websphere on linux/vm as compared to an install  on a
non-mainframe platform?
Client is complaining about slow performance installing websphere on
linux/vm.
Any hints and tips performance wise appreciated too!
