Since you have been writing to the disk, and blocks may wait some time
in memory before they are written, simply detaching the disk could cause
a lot of problems.
First unmount the disk so that buffers are flushed and nothing has files
open. Then
  echo set device 0800 off > /proc/dasd/devices
This will show on your console that the device has been disabled. Now
you can detach the virtual device. There's no need to restart unless you
want to.
