There *are* reasons for a Linux-resident putty. My co-worker here compiled
Putty for Linux and, despite getting flames from telling people about it,
it *is* useful. In a linux-only shop I admit that ssh is fine (especially
when wrapped in an xterm) and putty redundant.
Since we work a heterogenous shop it's nice to set a terminal type that all
machines can cope with.
Additionally, our AIX boxes all work better with ^H as the erase key whilst
the Linux on my ThinkPad prefers to send ^? characters, which can be pretty
annoying (ssh won't re-map that for me). Doing "stty erase ^?" works
until you're trying to vi a file.
At first I would've been pretty down on putty but it's actually a very
useful tool. whether for telnet or ssh. (The only thing I really miss from
the Windoze version is the ability to "rescale font" when maximizing the
window, but that's my advanced age speaking. T30s w/ 1500x1052 displays
are not that kind on aged eyes...)

Please respond to
Linux on 390 Port
Why? Just use ssh which is usually a part of the Linux install. Use "ssh"
for an interactive shell. Use scp for a secure "copy" from one Linux to
another.
BTW - should this be on the Linux/390 forum instead of here?
