I already frowned upon someone reading channel programs and instruction streams in octal, but this one does it for me... ;-) Sorting out problems and understand what went wrong in the *same* time as doing the re-install would be a win-win case. As long as you're not sure what went wrong it is likely to happen again and cause trouble. If zipl is getting confused over the disk layout and fails to report the failure, then it is not unlikely the 'raw' format seen by Linux is wrong as well. I still recall where zipl would silently wipe out all data on a disk when using the diagnose driver. The DDR output that Sue also produced for this is probably more reliable. Rob PS I just verified that zipl from the current s390-tools also works on LDL disks.
