Take a look in /var/log/messages.  You might see messages about init
suspending things because of too many failures in the last "x" seconds.  See
if that correlates with what runs on the console, and it might give you some
clues as to how to fix it.

Client on way out the door today showed me a linux SuSE SLES8 system. There
is no login prompt at the 3270, putty/ssh works from out in the network.

I have seen that this was a problem in SuSE7 under certain circumstances.

Anyone seen or experienced anything similar? Any fixes in SLES8?
