It's not necessarily *better*, but it's no longer a difference.  One of the
big whines we hear constantly is that "having a mainframe makes us have to
buy special-purpose stuff that's so different from our other systems that we
have to get special training for our staff".  Being able to use the SAME
stuff is a positive thing.

As Ann said, it's sometimes slower than the ECKD support, but if it saves
having the "another weird mainframe device cost" argument, that may be
enough to make it worth while.
