I think what you really want is the WAKEUP MODULE. WAKEUP will not only wake up after a specified time (absolute or relative), but will wakeup based on times specified in the WAKEUP PARMS file and perform associated tasks. You can also wakeup based on virtual machine interrupts (i.e. a file arriving in the virtual card reader, receipt of an IUCV or VMCF message, console interrupt, etc.) - it's pretty powerful and simple to use.
