I would expect that telnet is not enabled by default, which is a good thing, since it is inherently insecure. Try using an SSH client, such as TeraTerm w/ the SSH extension, or PuTTY. If that still doesn't let you in, it is probably because you specified "medium security" during system configuration, and firewall rules are preventing access. "iptables -F" should temporarily correct that.
