I think we are finally going to go ahead with serious penguin power. I am going to a meeting shortly at which we will discuss a rather broad agenda item:
estimate a time line for the installation and implementation of z/VM, Linux guests, DB2 Connect or Neon JDBC driver, WebSphere Application Server, RACF support for Linux admin IDs and Websphere user IDs, LPARs on the z800, disk space and disk backup If anyone has any input to this, please feel free to touch on any of these things. I dont expec an answer by the time I hit the meeting but if I have some experienecs on people going from a couple of LPARS to whole hog into VM, that would be helpful. Pitfalls, etc, and things like that. I have been the sole support/clueless idiot wandering in the wasteland for z/Linux here for almost 4 years. Playing without a net, and learning as I go. Finally I have an opportunity to get the rest of the z/os team on board to this operating system. Once they learn to speak penguin, I think their exceptional skills will be nothing short of empowering for us all. Any experiences, pitfalls that befell you, and cautionary tales are welcome.
