I had the same problem with the 1.4.1 version of SDK on Redhat ES 3.0. The JIT was disabled. I posted a note a few weeks ago and Neale had a comment (see below). I know for a fact that there is a JIT compiler in the 1.4.1 release because I just installed it on Debain 3.01 and it works.
