There are some minor performance issues between ext2 and reiserfs. The differences are minor and will depend greatly upon your load and the kinds and sizes of files you are using on the filesystem. Either is acceptable. I've always used ext3 and never have had any problems with it. there are some "reported instabilities" with reiserfs on linux/390, but I have no idea what that means or if it still is true.
