I made the change but still cannot ping from z/OS.

ctc0 Link encap:Serial Line IP
          inet addr:161.186.86.6 P-t-P:161.186.86.5 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:32760 Metric:1
          RX packets:63 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:59 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:12120 (11.8 Kb) TX bytes:8374 (8.1 Kb)

The CTC0 route changed to

161.186.86.5 dev ctc0 proto kernel scope link src 161.186.86.6

The ping is definitely making it over to Linux. It is just not coming
back.

I think this netmask should be 255.255.255.255, as the CTC is a
point-to-point link.
