The rest of us will get it in the maintenance from their distributor at some later time. In most cases you start with a SuSE or Red Hat distribution which is different from the vanilla kernel where the DeveloperWorks patches fit on. Reworking the patches to fit some intermediate level of SuSE or Red Hat is time-consuming. I would suggest to stick with the distribution for your Proof of Concept. If you really think there is something vital in the bleeding edge patches that makes the difference for your PoC, you could ask here for a helping hand or find the distributor willing to pick up that code.
