I suppose I ought to help out here! ;-)

On the face of it it appears that dasdc was not properly unmounted when
it was last created or updated. I suggest that you get onto the server
that you used to create your model disks (this server will have R/W
access to all disks), and boot/shutdown the server again. This should
ensure that dasdc is "clean".

It's my experience that the control files used for LVMs are located on
/etc alone and therefore should have no side-effects on the directories
which I identify as R/O in the presentation noted below.

If you like you can contact me at "William dot Scully aat CA ddot com"
and (time permitting) I'll offer help in reviewing your implementation.

Subject: Sharing root mdisk with SLES 8.0 and LVM

I have been trying to create a zLinux system using the presentation from
William Scully (http://linuxvm.org/Presentations/misc/basevol.html).

It seems to work pretty well except I get some errors from the boot
device
when it is brought up read-only. These don't affect the boot until I
define some LVM managed devices - then I get the following messages:

dasd_erp(3990): /dev/dasdc ( 94: 8),[EMAIL PROTECTED]: EXAMINE 24: Command

dasd(eckd): Sense data:

dasd(eckd):24 Byte: 0 MSG 0, no MSGb to SYSOP

and eventually ...

fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot. The root
file system is currently mounted read-only. To remount it
read-write do:

   bash# mount -n -o remount,rw /

Has anyone seen this and could point me where to look?
