Hello Mary,
I just had a similar problem, had 600MB free space and the log.txt file
said it only required 467MB for the complete install and it was still
failing on the silent install with the responsefile. Apparently behind
the scenes it does a check of an addtional 150-200MB for temp work space.
I was able to finally install it successfully with bypassing the space
check with the following command
./install -W validateSilentInstallDirectoryWizardBean.active=false
-options responsefile.txt

Has anyone here every successfully installed Websphere AS 5.1 using the
response file, not the graphical interface? It keeps telling me there is
not enough space even though there is plenty. The graphical interface
install liked the amount of space and happily installed it. I've got our
ibm account team chasing it down, but I thought I'd ask you experts first.
Wishing all these things didn't use X... It's not that I haven't figured
out vncserver, etc; it's just that the security group here has a thing
about
putting X on production servers (or for that matter, more sw that what's
needed to run the thing).
