Linux on z/VM Performance Measurement and Tuning
Barton Robinson, Velocity Software, Inc.

Measuring and tuning Linux on VM required melding two different
mindsets, neither of them that work on their own. This presentation will
discuss how to find the problems, and how to solve them with the best of
today's technology and understanding. A brief discussion on performance
instrumentation and associated "challenges" for VM and Linux will be
provided.

VM Advanced Network Services: A New Reference Architecture Proposal for
VM TCP Services
David Boyes, Sine Nomine Associates

Over the last decade or so, VM TCPIP has gotten some new function, but
overall, the state of the VM TCPIP implementation is essentially one
that has been overtaken by the explosion of the Internet into popular
culture. With the coming of Linux, and the need for re-architecting the
IP services provided for CMS to face a more hostile environment than the
Internet of 1988, a new way of deploying and configuring IP services on
VM is needed. What this presentation attempts to do is present a
internal Sine Nomine research proposal for a new VM TCPIP architecture
that provides a refreshed and updated implementation of the existing
network services, new functions to improve the state of VM's network
capabilities, and to ease the integration and deployment of Linux
systems in server farms.

We'll cover the proposal for the new architecture, point out how it uses
some of the latest function in z/VM to dramatically simplify configuring
a new VM instance, and spend some time discussing how this approach can
benefit classic CMS shops as well as new VM users.

z/VM Platform Update: What's New In z/VM 5.1
Reed Mullen, IBM

What's new with z/VM? Catch the latest breaking news on z/VM product
enhancements. This session will provide a high level overview of the new
z/VM Version 5 product announcement. ? z/VM V5.1 offers new leading-edge
virtualization capabilities in addition to a new pricing model that will
help enterprises more easily exploit the on demand capabilities of
zSeries virtualization technology. The value of Linux on z/VM will
receive particular attention. A look to the future of z/VM development
will also be provided.

In addition, Gerard Shockley from Boston University will be presenting
and End User Experiences presentation (details to follow on Monday).

Looking forward to seeing you all at Lombardo's for NEUVM's Spring
Meeting!
