I have installed Oracle 9i on SLES8 under ZVM 4.3 with 256 m of storage.
This was a function/compatibility test, not a performance test. My V-Disk
was 30000, the only problem I encountered was with the universal installer
requiring JDK. Somewhere I read that it was recommended that the SWAP file
be twice the size of the defined memory for that Oracle box. I had a swap
file of 2 gig defined on that system. I only did that because I was told it
would NOT work.

1Gig is not enough. We ran just fine with 1536M (1.5Gig).
Do you have the doc from Oracle with the changes to the kernel parms? Their
doc
jumps around a bit.
You can miss the fact that you need more memory and can miss the kernal
specs as
well.
