Don't know of anything that has been done, but you probably have little choice there. If you plan to run a commercial application most likely there will be only one single distribution where it will run. SAP for example requires a 64-bit distribution. If you plan to run a lot of Linux virtual machines on z/VM with various open source applications then a 32-bit distribution will be your friend since everything is smaller.
