My two cents: Cheers;

Some differences: - SuSE SLES8 allows the hertz timer to be turned on or off, depending on whether your are under VM or not. RedHat RHEL3 does not - hence you may have a performance issue with RedHat under VM with "idle" machines. ## At first we thought this would be an issue as well. After speaking with DSG / Sytek Services ( zLinux consultants in Denver, CO) It didn't look like it would be that big of an issue. In reality, they were right. We have not seen any real performance problems in VM. Also RedHat has informed us they will be including the hertz patch in the near future. - Redhat does not really support Reiserfs, if that is your preference. It allows mounting Reiser, but it does not include the tools necessary to support the filesystem (mkfs, tune, and the like). ## From the looks of the benchmarks we didn't see a great advantage to Reiserfs in a large backend disk subsystems. We use LVM on ext2 and ext3 filesystems on RHEL v 3.0. We're pretty pleased. ===== Jim Sibley RHCT, Implementor of Linux on zSeries "Computer are useless.They can only give answers."
