IPL the system from your initial installation tape (kernel, parmfile,
initrd)
mount your DASD
edit the /mountpoint/etc/passwd file to remove the password for root
unmount your DASD
re-IPL from DASD
sign on as root and change the password to something known
slap the hands of everyone involved.

 Hello, we have been testing s390 linux on separate lpar and we have ipl off
disk. There were few of us testing with root id and changed the
password....and now we don't know the root password.... :( therefor how do
we reset root password ?
