One of the most common uses of LDAP is to maintain a "white pages" directory of user information, which people can then use to look up contact information, commonly from within their email/address book clients. It's appropriate for "most" applications where you have a high volume of searches and a low volume of inserts/updates. Remember that LDAP is just a protocol layer/access method, not a full blown application, there has to be a "something" behind it (RACF, DB2, x.500 directory server, etc.) that provides the actual data store. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
