Would like some advice on ghosting our SuSE8 Linux image. I intend to usd "dd" for this.
We have 16 x 3390-3 and we are currently using only 4 of them. At this time I would like to ghost the 4 volumes to another set of unused (out of the 16) volumes so I can get a standby image to boot from. Current usage is about 5+ GB on these 4 volumes. volumes 0x2300 - 0x2303 (volgroup = Primary) to be ghosted to 0x230A - 0x230D (volgroup = Secondary) We now IPL from 0x2300. Standby IPL device would be 0x230A The ghosting can be as frequent as daily but at least once a week. After the ghosting, we can vary 0x230A - 0x230D offline and use DFDSS to back these up. I am also considering using 'netcat' to ghost over the network to an Intel box (only to be used like a backup). This would not be used as a standby. Rather we would ghost back to the mainframe volumes in the event of a disaster. For file backups, I could use SAMBA / rsync / rdist Any comments? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
