I typically use ext3.

ReiserFS seems cool, but the implementation that's standard in Debian
has a nasty tendency to panic under extremely heavy load and corrupt the
disk. That may have been fixed by now, but I haven't tried it recently.

Reiser *should* perform better than ext3 for lots of little files, but
the stability problems have so far kept me from going back to it on
L/390.

The other thing I use a lot is xip2fs. Put your filesystem in a DCSS
and share it r/o between multiple guests. No need to load executables
into memory, just map them off the DCSS. It's cool.
