What I like even better for some configurations is to use an EW shared segment for swapping. Like VDISK it does not cost much until you need to use it. Because the contents of the segment is mapped in kernel address space it does not even require a virtual I/O but can be done by just copying a page. That further reduces the penalty for swapping.
