Slightly apples-to-oranges, but we discovered that using reiser with virtualization on Intel led to huge performance losses. With 15 UML machines with reiser root drives, we were seeing 100% CPU load on the host while idle, and almost unuseable performance in the guests. Changing to ext3 w/out data journaling (default behavior) solved this and dropped the idle host load to about 3%.
