Make sure rpc.portmap is running both on the system exporting the NFS mount,
and on the system trying to perform the mount. I've run into this kind of
problem when the local system didn't have portmap running, and I thought it
was a problem with the NFS server.

Subject: SLES8 zLinux NFS to AIX

Hello all,

Anybody had any difficulties mounting a SLES8 zLinux NFS export to external
servers, e.g. AIX 5.2, os/390?

rpcinfo from the external servers shows portmapper is running :-

nfs_client>$rpcinfo -p nfs_server
program vers proto port service
100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
100024 1 udp 32768 status
100024 1 tcp 32768 status
100003 2 udp 2049 nfs
100003 3 udp 2049 nfs
100003 2 tcp 2049 nfs
100003 3 tcp 2049 nfs
100021 1 udp 32770 nlockmgr
100021 3 udp 32770 nlockmgr
100021 4 udp 32770 nlockmgr
100021 1 tcp 32769 nlockmgr
100021 3 tcp 32769 nlockmgr
100021 4 tcp 32769 nlockmgr
100005 1 udp 32771 mountd
100005 1 tcp 32770 mountd
100005 2 udp 32771 mountd
100005 2 tcp 32770 mountd
100005 3 udp 32771 mountd
100005 3 tcp 32770 mountd

Tried the insecure/nfso use reserved_ports options with no difference.

On AIX client I get :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]/mnt]$mount nfs_server:/nfs /mnt/nfs001/
mount: 1831-010 server nfs001 not responding: RPC: 1832-018 Port mapper
failure - RPC: 1832-008 Timed out
mount: retrying

Hostname forward and reverse resolution works fine.

I can mount to other zLinux guests in the same lpar and in a different lpar
on a different zSeries.

TIA
