I would not have considered in my wildest dreams to also read and write data on the individual disks that make up the md pair. As far as I recall zipl creates a utility file to hold the list of blocks that the bootstrap needs to read. If you run that twice on the different sides of the mirror, that file will be created in a different place? That spot will be empty on the original, and once it is used it will overlay whatever zipl put there on the mirror? No?
