SysVInit (which, if you didn't see the initial announcement, brings
better-than-System-V-init-processing to VM/ESA and z/VM) has now been
updated to version 0.3.

Significant changes: no more SYSVINIT NAMES or MAINLOOP EXEC files, so
configuration is somewhat simplified. SysVInit is now a lot better
about actually only keeping a read link to its configuration disk and
only grabbing a write link when it needs to update the runlevel files
(and about getting rid of that link when it's done). This makes
customizing files on AUTOLOG1 192 from another user much easier.

It's still at http://www.sinenomine.net/vm/s5i

If you're wondering, "why would I need this?": conditional dependency
checking of virtual machines started at system IPL. The ability to
define multiple runlevels for, say, normal operation as opposed to
maintenance mode. A simple API for installation of new services on
your VM system. A NAMES file parser that can be used to simulate
persistent associatively-indexed data structures in Rexx (I needed
something like a Perl tied hash-of-hashes; I got most of the
functionality I wanted). Amaze your friends! Confound your enemies!

Enjoy!
Adam
