> If you want to index PDF documents you must have something that can > extract the text out of the PDF. The FAQ has some points on how to use > the tools that come with xpdf. On the Wintel platform, "dtSearch" can index .PDF files - and about three hundred other formats. I've downloaded the Flex-ES documentation (using Teleport Pro, which automatically makes a local copy of complete web sites), around 400 IBM manuals in .PDF format, and several other web sites. About five thousand documents in all. It makes an excellent research tool when I'm travelling. (Except I ripped myself off. When I bought the ThinkPad, I also bought the airline seat power cord. Mistake - the airlines won't let me use it. They insist on their cords for insurance and safety reasons.) -- Phil Payne http://www.isham-research.com +44 7785 302 803 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
