I must not be understand something. The Diag driver, which is the default,
from what I've read, should be part of the SLES8 kernal. But I'm not sure
that it is there, nor am I sure how to tell.

Here's what I show for lsmod

Module Size Used by Tainted: P
qeth                  153756   2

The results of swapgen before IPL

exec swapgen 300 256000 (reuse)
DIAG swap disk defined at virtual address 300 (31731 4K pages of swap
space)

I have dev 300 defined to zipl.conf, and I ran zipl.

zipl.conf shows

# Generated by YaST2

[ipl]
target=/boot/zipl
image=/boot/kernel/image
ramdisk=/boot/initrd
parameters="dasd=200-203,300 root=/dev/dasdb1"

[dumpdasd]
target=/boot/zipl
dumpto=/dev/dasd??

[dumptape]
target=/boot/zipl
dumpto=/dev/rtibm0

cat  of /proc/dasd/devices shows:

pequot:/etc/init.d # cat /proc/dasd/devices

0300(none) at ( 94: 16) is dasde      : unknown

So... the conclusion I draw is that I missed something fundamental. For it
to tell me that the device 300 is unknown tells me I've screwed something
up and I suspect the diag driver is not loaded.

So this is where I brickwall.

Any clue would be most appreciated.
