I hope I'm on-track / on-topic with this response. In my own work, for reference and other reasons, I've got a home-grown Linux that has no specific personality. Actually, it has some, but I've tried to shove more and more of that into a single config file (a sourceable shell environment var file). For mainframe Linux, that file is on a CMS minidisk. On z/VM, the "personality" can easily key-off the VMID. For PC class Linux, it often keys-off the MAC address of whatever NIC you have in place. -- R; ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
