While testing SLES 8 i have had to create some
filesystems and moving alot of data around I noticed
that disk performance seems to be really slow. This
performance problem seems to be across all disks. Our
zSeries is escon attached to the main storage. What I
have done to replicate this transfer a large file from
one filesystem to another. What I am seeing is less
than 1MB/Sec when moving a 650MB file between
filesystems. Is this a typical behaviour or does it
look like we have a configuration issue? The escon
channel is not used by anyone except VM so it is
mostly idle. Here is my output from iostat:

Device: rrqm/s wrqm/s r/s w/s rsec/s wsec/s
 rkB/s wkB/s avgrq-sz avgqu-sz await svctm
