Once the VM guy understood what it was I was actually trying to do, rather
than thinking he understood what I was trying to do, this got a lot easier.
I had been trying to copy the file system from an lpar on a z/800 to vm
guest on a z/900.
As soon as I mentioned dedicate/attach he went 'Doh' and said the z/800
devies were defined to the VM lpar and life became simple
So thanks for all your help.
Would be nice if I knew VM but he doen't know linux so I guess it's even
Thanks

Easiest thing to do is going to be DEDICATE or ATTACH.
