Are you sure this is what you want to do? If you have Linux currently running on a 32-bit hardware platform, the same Linux will run fine on a 64-bit zSeries machine (whether on z/VM or in LPAR).
If you are on 64-bit hardware and z/VM runs in 64-bit mode, you could also run a 64-bit Linux distribution. The reason to do so is when your Linux applications require a 64-bit platform. The SuSE 64-bit distribution includes some 32-bit libraries to support some 32-bit SuSE applications that are in the 64-bit distribution. Building your own Linux for zSeries distribution from scratch is not trivial. It's probably equally tedious on s390 and x86. There's a lot of things to do wrong (I still remember my PC coming to a grinding halt when I was overwriting my i386 glibc libraries with the i390 version ;-) Rob -- Rob van der Heij rvdheij @ gmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
